We Came Here to Get Away From You

Is a series of portraits documenting Queer joy and the spaces in which we thrive. These portraits serve as an expression of autonomy, showcasing queer moments that range from quiet to bombastic.

These images document occasions of intimacy and sexual fantasy, featuring subjects from drag entertainers and sex workers to skid row nomads, all seeking the liberation of judgment-free expression.

Since the first brick was thrown at Stonewall on June 28, 1969, the LGBTQ+ community has fought for visibility. Now in 2026, we find ourselves continuing to protect the freedoms we fought for so long ago, standing firm in the spaces we created. In many of these environments, music acts as a catalyst for courage, propelling us to feel a sense of community and humanity through dance. This musical mirror reflects sound like the light of a disco ball, creating a space where we feel brave and whole and most importantly human.
